Night Light!

The 'Night Light!' project always causes great excitement. Children create code and send it to a microcontroller. They also design a box and place the microcontroller inside it. This is the first time children have to include a but in their program. The end result is a night light that turns itself off to conserve energy. During this project children develop a lot of skills including:

  • wiring a night light to a microcontroller
  • programming a night light to switch on using a button
  • programming a night light to switch off after a period of time
  • programming a night light to switch colours
  • listening to a partner's ideas
  • contributing ideas
  • perservering when there are bugs
  • developing and improving a program
