Ethos and Values

At Carlton Hill Primary School we are extremely proud of all of the staff’s commitment to ensure that the children within our care receive quality provision. We recognise that all children are unique individuals. That is why our mission statement is: "At Carlton Hill, fair means that everyone gets what they need, not that everyone gets the same." In other words, we aspire to meet the needs of all children.

We understand that a child's education extends well beyond their time at primary school, and that is why we want  children to become life-long learners. We do this by raising awareness of mindsets (the set of beliefs we hold about ourselves) and by promoting a growth mindset (a belief that we can all learn more if we apply ourselves). With a 'love of learning' and plenty of effort, all pupils (and adults!) can learn new things. In the same way, we think that a fixed mindset (the self-perception that we are either “clever” or “not clever”, and there is no way to change this) can be an obstacle to learning.

We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school. We respect the diversity of our community by celebrating and learning from our differences. We believe that relationships are the key to a successful school. We work hard to develop positive and supportive relationships between all members of the school community, and our golden rules help us to do this:
