Y5 home-learning timetable
In the event of part school closure or whole school closure, teachers will set work to be completed at home. As far as possible, teachers will adapt and continue the curriculum that children would have been learning had school remained open. Children should follow the timetable below. Some activities on the timetable contain the word 'task'. In Year Five, these activities can be found in the 'Classwork' section on Google Classroom. Some activities in the timetable are links to quality websites or reading activities.

Reading activities
After you have read your book for up to half an hour, pick one of these activities and complete it. You could upload it to the 'My Work' section of your webpage and use the class blog to tell your teacher.
- Write a multiple choice quiz about your book.
- Pick a descriptive word from the text, write it down and use a thesaurus to write down five synonyms for that word.
- Re-read a chapter and pick out 5 tricky words. Find the definition for each word. Use each word in a sentence of your own.
- Draw and label a character or a setting from a description in the book.
- Choose a key moment in the book and change the event. Re-write the following chapter.
- Re-write a chapter as a diary, a play-script or a newspaper article.
- Think of 5 questions you would like to ask one of the characters. Then write their answers as if you were that character.
- Which character in your book are you most like? Explain your answer.
- Which character in your book are you least like? Explain your answer.
- Which character in your book would you most like to be? Explain your answer.
- Construct a time line to fit your story. Include all the main events.
- Design a new cover for a book you have read.
- Draw a cartoon strip of the main events from the book.
- Dear author… write a letter to the author of your book. Tell them your opinion of their book and ask them any questions that you would want answering about the book.
- Re-write a part of your book from a different character’s point of view.
- Write a telephone conversation between you and one of the characters from the book.
- Draw a poster advertising the book. Make sure you write on the poster why people should read it.

Music
- Go to https://bhma.charanga.com/yumu
- Enter your username and password. Your password is the same one you use to access the Carlton Hill website to see your class blog. The username is similar but with yumu on the front. For example, if your Carlton Hill website username is mrpaterson then your YUMU username is yumu mrpaterson (make sure there is a space between the two bits).
- Click on the log in button.
- Explore the units of work on your page and earn points!
French
- Click on this link https://www.earlystartonline.com/pupil-welcome.html to go to the Pupil Pages WELCOME page
- You will be asked to enter the email address msalderson@earlystart.co.uk and the password carlton1 (all lower case)
- When you are on the WELCOME page, click on FRENCH 1 or FRENCH 2
- Click on the section you wish to view e.g. “Greetings”
- You can now use the Pupil Pages.
Do you need more home learning activities?
Children could also do 15 of minutes Times Tables Rockstars every day and continue to regularly access their ‘Sumdog’ account. Our school subscribes to Sumdog and every child has an account. Teachers set maths challenges and there are also curriculum-linked spelling activities. If you need a password reminder, please contact the school office.
Pupils can also explore further high quality resources linked to the remote learning page of the school website. This includes a link to the Oak National Academy which has been created by 40 teachers and backed by government grant funding. It provides 180 video lessons each week, across a broad range of subjects from maths to art to languages, for every year group across the primary age range. The resources on BBC bitesize are also excellent.
